Thailand Transport Ministry unveils its 2024 projects to boost connectivity and economy.


Thailand has announced its plans to invest 389.75 billion baht in various transportation projects in 2024, The Transport Ministry

Thailand EEC Road Map for Development in Connectivity

Thailand government's vision to create a seamless and efficient transportation system in the country, the projects include 64 projects that will be completed and 31 projects that will start construction in 2024, as well as 57 new investment projects for 2025.

Transport Minister Suriya Juangroongruangkit said that

"the transportation projects aim to improve the connectivity and accessibility of different regions and provinces in Thailand, as well as to support the economic and social development of the country. Also, enhance the competitiveness and attractiveness of Thailand as a regional and global hub for trade, tourism, and investment"

 

Some of the major transportation projects in 2024:

The Bangkok-Ubon Ratchathani high-speed railway

Link the capital city with the northeastern province of Ubon Ratchathani, reducing the travel time from 12 hours to 2 hours. The railway will have a length of 725 kilometers and a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour. The project is a joint venture between Thailand and China, and is expected to be completed in 2028.

The expansion of the Bangkok Mass Rapid Transit (MRT) system

It will extend the existing Purple Line from Bang Sue to Rangsit, adding 17 stations and 23 kilometers to the network. The project will complete in 2026, and will increase the capacity and coverage of the MRT system, serving more than 400,000 passengers per day.

The construction of High Speed-rail Network for EEC

Connect the EEC with major cities in Thailand and neighboring countries. The network will consist of three lines: the EEC-China line, which will link Bangkok with Kunming in China; the EEC-Laos line, which will link Bangkok with Vientiane in Laos; and the EEC-Malaysia line, which will link Bangkok with Kuala Lumpur in Malaysia. The network will have a total length of 1,435 kilometers and a maximum speed of 250 kilometers per hour. The project is going to complete in 2030, and will boost the development and integration of the EEC, which is a special economic zone that covers the provinces of Chachoengsao, Chonburi, and Rayong.

The Transport Minister said that;

"these projects will not only improve the transportation infrastructure and services in Thailand, but also create jobs and income for the people, as well as attract more investment and tourism to the country. The projects will also contribute to the environmental and social sustainability of the country, by reducing greenhouse gas emissions, traffic congestion, and accidents, and by promoting social inclusion and equity"
